Primitive Calculators and Friends 1979-82

After reissuing the landmark 1979 dwell album by Melbourne’s ferocious synth-punk snarlers Primitive Calculators in late 2004, Chapter Music follows up with an important compilation of tracks by Primitive Calculators and their buddies from the legendary Melbourne Little Band scene. Together with the Calculators’ solely studio recording, the one ‘I Cannot Cease It b/w Do That Dance,’ plus the Little Bands compilation EP (each initially launched in 1979 and now extremely prized collectors objects), plus quite a few dwell and rehearsal recordings, the CD examines a very fertile and distinctive time in Melbourne music historical past, which has been mentioned in hushed tones ever since. It takes in bands with names like Thrush and the Cunts and Too Fats to Match Via the Door, and ranges from disaffected Fitzroy art-punk to Sudanese tribal chanting recorded in London. With liner notes culled from a revealing interview with Prim Calcs members Dave Gentle, Denise Hilton and Frank Lovece, plus uncommon pictures and tune lyrics, Primitive Caluclators And Mates is a revelatory companion piece to their dwell album, which obtained a rave evaluation from Most Rock ‘n’ Roll and a ten out of 10 Album of the Month characteristic in Australian Vice Journal, amongst different stellar clippings on it is reissue two years in the past.
